Sleek Make-Up, WTF?

Posted by iamglamourpuss at 3:52 PM
I finally got the order I placed in November today. This is the order I placed during Sleek's 50% off sale.

I ordered 3 palettes: the Good Girl, Acid and Storm. But I received the Sparkle palette too, which wasn't even available when I placed this order. I had to place another order the following Wednesday for the Sparkle palette. Now I have two!

Then I ordered some of their nail polishes. I got Barbie, Lilac, Florida, Turquoise and Princess.

When I opened the box, everything was pretty much as it should be. Once again, they packed things impeccably well. I got a free mini lipgloss which is adorable.

BUT the Florida nail polish has polish on the lid. Has it been opened? Has it been used? This is bad, Sleek....bad.

BUT IT GETS WORSE! After I take everything out, I glance at the box and see this:

WTF? Is this supposed to be funny? Is this simply a case of a disgruntled employee playing a game of "Let's Screw With the American?" I have to say I was absolutely speechless. And the more I think about it, the more I pissed off I get. This COULD be construed as a threat. And that's really ridiculous seeing as how the UK is almost constantly under the threat of a terrorist act. You'd think they'd be more sensitive.

This irks me because despite their shipping issues and silly terrorist doodles, I really love the product. These new palettes totally kick ass. The polish colors are nice, despite the questionable Florida bottle. Ugh, why are make-up companies frustrating me so much these days!?!?

**Added Note: I'd like to add that I do not think the package was tampered with in customs. All the original tape was in tact and the box is flat black on the outside, so if it had been tampered with, I'm certain I would've been able to see it. I have posted this on Sleek's FB page and I've tweeted it. I don't expect to hear anything from them until Monday the 27th at the earliest.**

Wow.. your post left me speechless..
Seriously, that drawing.. You should publish it on Sleek's comments. They can't just wipe something like this under the carpet :S Things like these need to be made public, or else it'll continue :s
I'm sorry about your order going like this.. Mine went bad too, but at least I had no drawings like this, and only had a label from one polish missing.
Lilac is gorgeous btw :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HUGS ON YOUR WAY!! :)

That is horrific! However I'm going to have to say that maybe it isn't Sleeks fault - do packages go through customs? It could be that someone opened your stuff in customs and did that abomination of a "doodle".

9/11 was not funny and never will be funny. I seriously pity the person who drew that, how disgusting of them.

Hope you bring it up with Sleek nevertheless, they probably should be aware of how your package got to you, gr.

What on earth? It looks like the work of some frustrated/bored/disgruntled employee instead of a company-wide thing, or it could be someone in customs. Still, I'd be totally disturbed if I had received a box with that drawing! That person who did that obviously has issues to joke about something so sensitive. I hope he/she gets found out and fired. Jeez, the nerve of some people. 9/11 was a horrific event, and it's not funy at all.

A joke? A threat?
Any way you twist it, that is sick and disturbing!
I do hope you email these to CS and I do hope they handle this disgusting situation quick and harsh!

WHAT IF you lost a loved one in that terrorist attack?!! Even not directly affected, I'm completely offended.

So sorry that happened to you!

I'm sorry that happened to you. I also had weird smudge marks from makeup on and within the packaging with made me question how they handle their products. Even if that drawing was supposed to be some kind of joke, its completely wrong. I hope Sleek brings attention to it.

If Customs inspects your parcel, they have to tell you so - it's also pretty obvious when a parcel is opened and resealed.

If that is on the inside of the box (and it looks as if it is) then it has happened at Sleek. I am completely disgusted by this.

that is unbelievable, I've also been having problems with Sleek and had a little rant about it. It's just seems like one disaster after another and I don't even know where to begin on the drawing front...

this is just shocking!
i too have had issues with Sleek. I made an order in the sale and didnt ever receive my delivery - though they have taken my money.
Hope you get a response from them x

@Grace: Actually, they don't. I received a package from the UK from my mum in law and it had been tampered with. No note or anything. I could tell because everything was wrapped in tissue but one lone eyeshadow was stuck loose on top of everything. I asked her about it and she said she had packed it in, and I could tell the items had been rifled through as she is a neat packer (also had tape on one end that didn't match).

But this... is really weird. Did the box say Sleek anywhere on it? I am wondering if they recycle their boxes or something? That is just... wow...

iamglamourpuss on January 4, 2011 at 3:57 PM said...

@Cydonian, it does say Sleek on the outside and it the standard black box that they mail in. I still haven't gotten a reply from them.

Interesting post. I have some observations though...

Firstly what proof do you have for the very serious allegation you make that someone at Sleek did this doodle?

Secondly, you have given no proof that the box was not opened previously, you just state that it wasn't and expect everyone to accept that as gospel.

Thirdly I assume you have already contacted Sleek directly and discussed this with them and they have either denied it or told you they would investigate blah blah blah or perhaps just ignored you though that would be stupid right? That is why you posted in the first place?

Finally, let's examine some motivations. Your theory about the disgruntled employee whilst cliched could possibly be true but since the consequences could be they would most likely be fired and worse could face criminal charges make this very unlikely. Obviously Sleek as a company would not condone such action the damage to their reputation would be huge.

How about this for another theory, a disgruntled customer and aspiring blogger looking to create a stir and make a bigger splash? Only problem is the threat of criminal charges and multi million dollar lawsuits is still very real and would deter most people away from dreaming up such a stupid idea, don't you think? Of course you did that's why you've posted right?

Happy New Year - by the way you might want to get the number for a good lawyer

Martin,

I will address the points you brought up.

First of all, as stated in my blog, the one layer of original tape was in tact. Had it been tampered with, it would have been visible, especially since the box is black. So, if tape was removed and new tape was added you would be able to tell.

This means to me, since the drawing was inside the box, that someone at Sleek did the drawing. I suppose I could be wrong and it could be someone at the company that manufactured the box and perhaps the person who packed the order at Sleek simply did not notice.

I did not take a photo of the box before I opened it, I really didn't feel it was necessary since it appeared that all was as it should be. Nothing looked out of the ordinary.

Next, I have contacted Sleek via every means possible. They have not posted on Twitter since Dec. 22nd. They have not posted on Facebook since Dec. 22nd. I have emailed them via their website email address multiple times to no avail.

I am certain that as a company they would not condone such actions. They are an international company. That is why I surmised that this must be a problem on an individual level.

For the most part, I am not a disgruntled customer. Shipping was extremely slow as they caught up on orders from their 50% off sale, but I love their products. I bought a ton of them when I was last in London. My love for their products is the only reason I am willing to wait so long for product.

I don't consider myself an aspiring blogger. Either you read my blog or you don't. If you do read my blog, then I hope I can inform you with MY experiences...good and bad. I take reviews into careful consideration before I buy something. It's nice to know what to expect from a company. But it's no skin off my back if someone doesn't read it. This isn't how I make my living.

And there is no way on Earth I could have dreamed this all up...my imagination isn't that wild and I had friends who worked in the Twin Towers so I don't take anything related to 9/11 or "planes crashing into buildings" very lightly.

The only thing I want from Sleek is an explanation. That is all.

Speaking of people who like to stir up shit... "Martin" (no link to a real profile - what a surprise) appears to be one of those people who likes to use the word lawyer to scare people. There is no libel in what was posted here and if Sleek WERE worried about this post, they would have responded with a cease and desist letter (or, if they wanted to keep a good customer, an apology and request for her package tracking information).

This is stunning. I'll be posting a link on Twitter and on Sleek's Facebook page. This at least deserves some response from them, even if it's just a "sorry to hear about that"...and BTW, your response to "Martin" was very well put.

Anastasia on January 8, 2011 at 2:17 PM said...

Wow, that's uh. Yeah.

As a UK person (who think Sleek are dicks lately) I'll also point out like the others have that we don't think 911 was funny, and yes, we're probably public enemy #2 hiding right behind you guys. We had our own terrorist attacks as a result of our involvement in the war, just on a much smaller scale. So, it is CERTAINLY not the general opinion of the UK - I've never heard from anyone here who would think that was funny.

Secondly, at "Martin", rofl. Seriously?
"How about this for another theory, a disgruntled customer and aspiring blogger looking to create a stir and make a bigger splash? Only problem is the threat of criminal charges and multi million dollar lawsuits is still very real and would deter most people away from dreaming up such a stupid idea, don't you think?"

Multi-million dollar lawsuits? Criminal charges? Ahaha, get over yourself, Atticus. OH RIGHT, her numbers were down so she decided to draw a cartoon of the twin towers. That's absolutely what *I* would think of doing if *I* wanted more readership for my blog, it's such an obvious idea. I wouldn't say, vandalise the product, or claim something was missing or unhygienic, no, I'd draw a cartoon making light of terrorist attacks on the box. OBVIOUSLY.

You can't fucking make this shit up.

Goddamn! All I can think is that someone who packed this, or had access to the box before it was sealed and shipped did this. A lot of people think that America is alone in its rollercoaster ride against Al Qaeda but there are just as many, if not more muslims in Britain. I think this is most likely the word of a Sleek employee w/ a very personal and troubled religious agenda. I mean, for those interpreting the Quran that way, you are an American/Western infidel only concerned w/ the capitalist, consumer-driven culture that is a complete affront to Allah. Or something.
I think Sleek has messed up very badly since November but I don't think this is directly their fault. However, if all they do is sweep it under the rug w/ a form-letter apology and a free nail-polish, I'd be raining hellfire on them. They need to deal w/ this internally and find out whose arse to fire. Retweeted this post from Jess because this is so messed up.

Well, I'm sure it's no surprise that I STILL have not gotten a response from Sleek. I mean, I'd be happy if they just replied with a "We're just as shocked and appalled as you are." comment. But the silence is maddening.
